The Carphone Warehouse's Supreme Gamer

Telly and PS3 won by Huddersfield chap in FIFA contest.

On Friday, eight of the UK’s top gamers descended upon London’s Westfield Shopping Centre for the final of The Carphone Warehouse’s Supreme Gamer. Unsurprisingly, Brazil and France were the most popular choices as the players chose their teams on EA SPORTS Fifa World Cup South Africa 2010.

After knocking out Jason Penaluna (playing with Spain) 4-0 in the first round, Robert Brewster from Huddersfield took on Shumon Miah (Brazil) in a tense semi-final, clinching a third goal just before the final whistle and winning 3-2. The final ended 3-0 after Robert’s French team defeated Chris Bullard’s England.

Earlier this year dedicated gaming fans competed in regional heats held at Carphone Warehouse stores in Exeter, Salisbury, Oxford, Brighton, Cardiff, Manchester, Ipswich and Stoke.

The regional finalists were:

- Shumon Miah from Brighton

- Niall Wilson from Cardiff

- Steven Turner from Exeter

- Robert Brewster from Huddersfield

- Jason Penaluna from Salisbury

- Chris Bullard from Ipswich

- Ben Andrews from Stoke

- Michael Barrett from Oxford

Robert Brewster, Supreme Gamer, said: "I'm delighted to have won, especially as I was up against some of the best players in the country. I won the tournament with France, but am backing England to go all the way in the World Cup!"

As well as the title of ‘The Carphone Warehouse Supreme Gamer', Robert won a 32” HDTV, a PS3 Slim, two accompanying games plus a Logitech Squeezebox (music streaming device).
