Tantalus Celebrates its Biggest Year Yet

14 November 2007

For Immediate Release

The release with THQ and Disney-Pixar of Cars: Mater National on DS and GBA has capped the biggest year of releases ever for Melbourne-based developer Tantalus. Seven SKUs across five titles will have shipped by year's end, a significant achievement for the 65-person studio.

In addition to Trick Star (GBA) and Top Gear: Downforce (DS), 2007 saw the release with Eidos of the hugely successful Pony Friends (DS). Already a half-million unit seller, Pony Friends is nominated in the Best Game category at the Game Developer's Association of Australia Awards, to be held on 17 November as part of the Game Connect: Asia Pacific conference.

Tantalus has now released some fourteen games on Nintendo handheld platforms, and continues to grow its reputation as one of the world's leading independent developers in this space.

Also for release later in the year is a new title in the much-revered MX vs. ATV series. Developed in partnership with Rainbow Studios and THQ, Tantalus is proud to announce the PSP and DS SKUs of MX vs. ATV: Untamed.

Tantalus CEO Tom Crago said he was delighted with the way the company was positioning itself in an ever-evolving market. "Obviously the GBA has been very good to us, and we were happy to have shipped two further titles on the platform this year. We have been on the DS since the beginning, and with the four titles we've released this year I feel we've enhanced our reputation as one of the leaders on that platform. MX vs. ATV is our third effort on PSP, and here again I think our technology is right up there. We have high hopes for that title."

Crago announced that the company had made a successful transition onto the Wii. "We're working on a large, original title for a top tier publisher, for release in 2009. It's very exciting for us to be on the Wii, and we hope this will be the first of many games we develop for that platform."

Tantalus will be showcasing its current crop of games at Game Connect: Asia Pacific in Melbourne from 15-17 November.
