Take-Two Interactive has announced the establishment of a new development studio in Shanghai, working on original IP and co-developed titles for the company's 2K Games label.

Take-Two Interactive has announced the establishment of a new development studio in Shanghai which will work on original IP and co-developed titles for the company's 2K Games label.

2K Shanghai is currently working on developing a Chinese language version of Sid Meier's Civilization IV for PC, which is expected to be completed this summer. No further projects have been announced for the studio to date, but the team will be working closely on co-development of various PC and console titles with other 2K studios around the world.

2K president Christoph Hartmann commented: "There is an enormous amount of development talent in China and it is also a great market for some of our franchises. With this studio, 2K is poised to participate in this rapidly emerging gaming market."

According to 2K Games, the new studio will also serve as a central hub for all for sales, marketing, development and outsourcing opportunities in China.
