Taiwanese firm takes blame for faulty PS2 adaptors

Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Hipro Electronics has accepted responsibility for supplying faulty PlayStation 2 AC adaptors.

Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Hipro Electronics has accepted responsibility for supplying faulty PlayStation 2 AC adaptors.

Sony announced a global recall of certain AC adaptors earlier this week after ascertaining that they may overheat and cause injury.

Hipro, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chicony Electronics, is now working in co-operation with Sony to recall and replace the AC adaptors in question, according to a spokesperson.

The company blames one of its suppliers for producing a component that could be susceptible to overheating. The spokesperson said that Hipro has not used the component in question since last December, and that all AC adaptors shipped to Sony since then are safe to use.
