The organisers of the 2006 Independent Games Festival have announced that submissions are now open for entries from developers, modders and students wishing to showcase their games.

The eighth annual competition features the largest grand prize to date, USD 35,000. The winner of the new modding competition will receive USD 10,000, while teams selected for the Student Showcase will be invited to display their games at the IGF. They will also be awarded passes to the Game Developers Conference.

The entry deadlines are September 6 for the main competition, October 10 for the modding contest and November 15 for the Student Showcase. Prizes will be awarded at the Game Developers Conference, taking place on March 20-24 in San Jose, California.
