Sony to publish Archer Maclean's Mercury in Japan

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced plans to publish Archer Maclean's Mercury, the critically acclaimed PSP puzzle title from Ignition Entertainment, in Japan this summer.

The game will be retitled [Hg] Hydrium and gameplay will be "slightly reworked in order to meet Japanese tastes, but the core of the game will remain," according to a statement issued by Ignition.

Mercury is based around the concept of tilting platforms in different directions to guide liquid metal through a series of maze-like environments, activating switches, navigating around obstacles and avoiding hazards along the way.

"From the beginning, we've always believed the game had real potential in the future of handheld entertainment," commented Ignition Japan's Kaz Takeshita.

"We're delighted SCEJ has chosen it for a first-party distribution deal in Japan."

The game was released in the US on April 6 and is down as a PSP launch title in Europe. It will go on sale in Japan on August 4, priced 4800 Yen.
