With unrivalled picture and sound quality, BD’s hugely advanced graphics, sound and storage capacity makes it an unparalleled medium for delivering the highest-quality games. This year, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is showcasing a whole range of forthcoming flagship titles that utilise BD to the full. Here are the first party titles on show at Games Convention, 2008.

inFamous

In the aftermath of an urban disaster, an everyday guy finds himself with extraordinary powers. What he does with them is up to the player. This is inFamous, the forthcoming PS3 title from Sucker Punch Productions. The open-ended, free-roaming game puts you in the shoes of Cole, a disaffected misfit and urban explorer, who finds – after a huge explosion destroys his hometown of Empire City – that he can muster and control surges of electricity. As Cole, you must first learn to use your new powers – and then decide how you will apply them in an apocalyptic landscape where thugs and criminals terrorise a cowed populace. inFamous is set for launch in Spring 2009

Killzone®2

The war continues on PS3 as Killzone 2 rumbles into view. This hotly-anticipated release sees the ISA take the war against the Helghast to their home planet of Helghan. Players will fight as Sev, a battle-hardened veteran of the ISA special forces unit known as Alpha Squad. Your mission: to secure Pyrrhus, Helghan’s capital city. All doesn’t go to plan, the ISA had not envisaged such a frenzied response from the remaining Helghast forces neither had they planned for the hostile environment in which the population have endured and harnessed to their military advantage. Releasing in February 2009, Killzone 2 will deliver a spectacular theatre of war to action gamers.

LittleBigPlanet™

LittleBigPlanet™ is a game that so defies convention that we’ve given it its own genre: creative gaming. Home to the small but mighty Sackboy, LittleBigPlanet is an irresistible world created by Media Molecule where creativity is part of the gameplay and playing is part of the creative experience. Teeming with places to explore, creative tools to collect and puzzles that baffle, it challenges gamers to make their way through it however they like, modifying and creating elements of their surroundings as they go. Sackboy can design, shape and build both objects and entire levels using his intuitive toolbox of skills and materials – and, when gamers have created a level, they can invite anyone to come and share it via PLAYSTATION®Network. LittleBigPlanet is set to launch on 29th October, 2008.

Heavy Rain™

A game like no other, Heavy Rain™ heralds a new generation of action adventure gaming. A PlayStation® exclusive, Heavy Rain is a genuinely mature game for a new world of adult gamers, with a dark and involving storyline tackling powerful themes. Players’ decisions are charged with importance, and actions can have drastic and unforeseen consequences for the characters, gameplay and storyline. The responsibility this brings creates a deep connection between the player and the characters, resulting in a truly engrossing but accessible game, without obscure stats or complex control systems. Gamers of all levels of experience will want to immerse themselves fully in Heavy Rain on its late 2009 release.

Resistance 2™

The highly-anticipated sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man™, Resistance 2™ crosses the Atlantic for the second installment in the tale of the terrifying invasion of Chimera as Sgt. Nathan Hale continues the fight in a bleak 1950s America. Prepare for bigger battles, spectacular landscapes and an even more gripping narrative told from Hale’s perspective – alongside an unprecedented online eight-player co-operative mode in which players meet to tackle specially-designed campaigns together, and online multiplayer for up to 60 gamers. Are you ready to save the world before you go to bed and for the next chapter in the alternative history of the 20th Century? Resistance 2 is set to launch in late 2008.

SOCOM: Confrontation

SOCOM: Confrontation pits the best military minds worldwide against each other in the most realistic modern warfare simulation ever. Players select to fight with one of five world-beating Special Forces units, equip themselves from a selection of lethal weapons and form a unit with friends or other gamers. Playable exclusively online on PLAYSTATION Network and available in the autumn of 2008, SOCOM: Confrontation is an ultra-realistic battle of skill, wits, gunplay and teamwork involving up to 32 players at once – ideal for the military fanatic.

Siren Blood Curse™

After its July launch on PLAYSTATION Network, Siren Blood Curse™ makes its debut on BD this Autumn, bringing blood-curdling terror to gamers everywhere. Following an American television crew investigating the stories about Hanuda, a village with a troubled past, with whispered tales of strange rituals of human sacrifice. A ghostly siren that spells danger for the living - and a murderous new life for the dead. You'll be hunted by the vicious Shibito (living dead) and must escape the blood curse or face becoming a Shibito yourself. Throughout the game you’ll play each of the visitors to the village, using the unique Sight-Jack System to switch seamlessly between the visions of hunted and hunter. Meanwhile blood, guts and gore are super-enhanced by amazing graphic effects, an advanced physics engine and shockingly realistic facial animations – all of which combine to make this a game for those who loved to get scared!

This is the eighth title from the critically-acclaimed Ratchet and Clank franchise and a fun-filled mini-adventure that the entire family will fall in love with. Jump aboard this September, me hearties, its time to begin your Quest for Booty!

MotorStorm®Pacific Rift
