Sony confirms repeat performance for PlayStation Experience

A consumer event showcasing forthcoming PlayStation titles will once again run alongside ECTS in London's Earls Court this year, with Sony promising that the event - which runs from August 28 to 31 - will be twice as large as last years.

A consumer event showcasing forthcoming PlayStation titles will once again run alongside ECTS in London's Earls Court this year, with Sony promising that the event - which runs from August 28 to 31 - will be twice as large as last years.

The event also promises to have longer duration than previously, with enhanced third party involvement. Last year, the PlayStation Experience featured games from just about every major third party publisher as well as Sony's own first party titles, and was warmly received by consumers who had previously never had access to games before release in this way.

"The PlayStation Experience was a resounding success in 2002," according to SCE UK managing director Ray Maguire. "In excess of 20 thousand people attended the event over the three days, and we have had a huge amount of interest from consumers who want to see this event become a regular occurrence. To this end, we are pleased to announce that we will be running the event for the second time this year. With double the floorspace, more content and live entertainment, four days duration and a much reduced entry price this will be an even bolder statement of the PlayStation experience."

The event will run as part of CMP's London Games Week initiative, which centres on ECTS and the Game Developers Conference and, it is hoped, will feature a number of consumer and industry events at a variety of venues across the capital.

Interestingly, London is not the only city which will be experiencing PlayStation this year - as SCEE now plans to move the format out across Europe. "The format will be rolled out to other key European territories in the summer and autumn," according to David Reeves, executive VP sales and marketing for Europe at Sony. "Announcements will be made about each European PlayStation Experience at a later stage. Each event will offer a truly memorable experience."
