Sony claims 14 million active PSN accounts

Over four million users sign up in less than 5 months, according to SCEA

Sony Computer Entertainment America has said that there are 14 million active PSN accounts in use globally.

Between them, users have downloaded over 273 million pieces of content since the service launched, a growth of over 100 million in less than five months.

Back in July this year, Sony said that there were over 9.8 million registered users on the PlayStation Network, and 170 million downloads

"With 14 million active accounts and 273 million pieces of content downloaded, we know that you're thirsting for this digital entertainment," said John Koller, director of hardware marketing for SCEA, on the company blog.

"PlayStation Network has truly hit its stride with unique downloadable games and a video delivery service featuring movies, TV shows, and original programming that you can watch in HD with your PS3, or bring with you on your PSP."

Sony America is currently celebrating two year's since the launch of the PlayStation 3 in the region.
