Shrapnel Games - Dominions 3: The Awakening

Turn-based fantasy strategy game gets a November discount.

News Release: For Immediate Release

Cary, NC, 03 November 2010

As the candles fade in the jack o' lanterns, and a new month is birthed, so comes the brand new savings at the Shrapnel Games' online store the Gamers Front. Prepare yourselves for the coming of winter's dark chill with two games that will transport you to worlds of high glory, nefarious monsters, and powerful addiction. For the month of November Dominions 3: The Awakening and Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa are both on sale!

Dominions 3: The Awakening is the premiere turn-based fantasy strategy game. Still talked about long after its release, Dominions 3: The Awakening is an experience that should not be missed.

Developed by Illwinter Game Design, hailing from the land of doom metal and ready-to-assemble furniture, this award-winning game is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. With a strong emphasis on multi-player gaming (with up to twenty-one players in one epic sized game), Dominions 3: The Awakening is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to content. Consider that before any patches are applied players may venture into three ages of play, choose from over fifty nations, wield hundreds of magical items and cast hundreds of spells, and command nearly fifteen hundred unique units. Once patched though all those numbers shoot up, transforming a game in which you would probably never get to experience all it offers in a lifetime to one in which you will definitely not get to experience it all.

Turns are simultaneous, making even the largest games easily managed. With so many choices available to players that affect the game, there are endless strategies and tactics to explore, discuss, and implement. Dominions 3: The Awakening easily supports mods, from the basic such as new maps to more complex ones that alter the game itself. A strong, vibrant community that is active on forums all across the Internet is always ready to help new players with tips or simply provide chatter about this amazing game.

You've read the forum AARs, you've heard about how great the game has been for years now, maybe you've even studied the excellent wiki entries. Now it's time to join in and lose yourself in the world of Dominions 3: The Awakening. All month long it will be on sale for only $49.95, available either as a physical product or as a download. Grab it for yourself and be sure to let your friends now.

Our next game on sale for the November monthly special is Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa, available for Windows. Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa is part single-player action Rogue-like CRPG, and part CRPG toolkit.

As a single-player game the object is a familiar one to hack and slashers: descend deep into the dungeons and slay the big foozles. Like a Rogue style game the dungeons are generated new with each play. There are multiple monsters to face, all with differing strengths and weaknesses. Scores of items can be collected, the player can advance from first to twentieth level, there is crafting, various conditions can affect the player, and more.

The most unique aspect of Scallywag is the use of light. Your character, Rapius, has a single lantern that illuminates his world. This lantern consumes oil at a rate dependent upon how bright the lantern is lit. Monsters will react of course to the lantern, so Rapius must strike a balance with enough light to discover the level's layout without alerting his foes.

As a CRPG toolkit Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa uses the RAGe (Random Adventure Generator engine) system to allow players to create their own adventures. Everything in the game can be modded with the only limit being how much effort the user wants to sink into his or her creation. Make simple mods by adding a few new monsters, or make complex mods in which the entire game is changed. An example of this, transforming the fantasy dungeon into a modern day zombie apocalypse, is included.

Fun to play and even more fun to create with, Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa is on sale all November for only $24.95 and is available as either a physical product or download.
