ShiVa 3D

Now includes Allegorithmics' Substance texturing middleware at no extra cost.

SOPHIA-ANTIPOLIS, France – Thursday September 16th – Stonetrip, the leading 3D engine studio for games and 3D applications, today announced that it will be integrating Allegorithmics’ Substance dynamic texturing middleware for Windows into the ShiVa 3D engine, at no extra cost. This is the first time that the Substance engine has been made freely available to developers.

Allegorithmics’ Substance Air helps developers to create tiny, high-quality textures that are ideal for MMO and browser-based gameplay. The textures designed and generated with Substance Air are extremely lightweight, fully dynamic, and customisable at run-time. By integrating with the runtimes of both products, ShiVa enables developers of online and browser-based games to quickly load Allegorithmic’s lightweight texture formats into the ShiVa Engine tools pipeline.

ShiVa licensees will be able to use the fully-integrated version of the Substance engine within ShiVa editor and ShiVa engine without any additional fees. This unprecedented move will enable ShiVa licensees to load and customise Substance dynamic textures, which are stored as highly optimised descriptions files, massively reducing the filesize. The final bitmaps are only generated by the run-time engine on installation or on loading, so the equivalent of gigabytes of bitmap textures can be saved in just a few kilobytes.
