Sega cans Obsidian's Aliens title
No plans to develop RPG based on movie franchise, says publisher
Obsidian has confirmed long-running rumours that it is no longer working on an Aliens RPG for Sega.
"Rumours have circled around a bit regarding the fate of the Aliens role playing game that Obsidian and Sega had been working on. Unfortunately, it is true that we are no longer working on the game, and we wanted to finally announce that officially to everyone who has been following its development," said a spokesperson for the studio.
Sega has two other games based on the movie franchise still in development – Rebellion's Aliens Vs Predator, and Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox, both due for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Sega said it has no current plans to move forward with a role-playing game based on the Aliens franchise.
"At this point, Sega has no plans to move forward with the Aliens RPG. The Aliens franchise offers us so much content to choose from that we feel it important to take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release," offered the company in a statement to Giant Bomb.
"We plan to continue working with the Aliens franchise and ask fans to be patient and stay tuned for more information about what Sega has coming out for the Aliens series of games."
Obsidian is still working with Sega on Alpha Protocol, as well as the recently announced Fallout: New Vegas for Bethesda.
