Resident Evil 2 Remake wins Best of Show at the E3 2018 Game Critic Awards
BioWare and Insomniac receive two awards apiece for Anthem and Spider-Man
In a surprise twist, Resident Evil 2 Remake was recognised as the Best of Show at this year's E3 Game Critic Awards.
No single game took home a substantial haul from the awards, but BioWare and Insomniac came close, tying with two awards each.
Anthem, criticised for being a departure from BioWare's typical narrative-heavy RPG style, won both Best PC Game and Best Action Game.
Meanwhile, Insomniac's take on Spider-Man won Best Console Game and Best Action/Adventure Game.
Overall, the list of winners included predictable entries such as Best Ongoing Game being awarded to Fortnite, while Best Fighting Game went to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Best Sports Game went to FIFA 19, and Best RPG went to Kingdom Hearts III.
Playground Games' Forza Horizon 4 won Best Racing Game, while Battlefield V won Best Multiplayer, and Total War: Three Kingdoms won Best Strategy.
The award for Best Original Game went to Media Molecule's Dreams which, despite the curious interest of consumers and journalists alike, failed to materialise during Sony's press briefing.
Tetris Effect won Best VR/AR Game, while Overcooked 2 took home the award for Best Family/Social Game, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps was recognised as the Best Independent Game.
Finally, several special commendations were handed out with Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us II, and Ghost of Tsushima each being recognised with a Special Commendation for Graphics. The Last of Us II also received a Special Commendation for Sound, and Cyberpunk 2077 received a Special Commendation for Innovation.
