Red 5 Studios adds VP of engineering

MMO developer Red 5 Studios has hired Michael Weingartner as vice president of engineering

MMO developer Red 5 Studios has hired Michael Weingartner as vice president of engineering.

Weingartner led the development of key enterprise server solutions at Oracle as their VP of server technology.

"Our new programming talent comes from diverse backgrounds, bringing a wealth of tech experience to the Red 5 tribe," said Mark Kern, president and CEO of Red 5 Studios.

"The team is almost complete, and every member has the passion to create something amazing - great games come from great collaboration, and the potential is thrilling."

Red 5 Studios, co-headquartered in Southern California and Shanghai, was founded by key members behind Blizzard's World of WarCraft - including team lead Mark Kern, art director William Petras and co-founder of Blizzard Korea Taewon Yun.

"There are intriguing parallels between building an innovative MMO server system and the work I was able to accomplish at Oracle," said Weingartner.

"I've been influenced by a number of hit games, including the Tribes series, StarCraft, and Dark Age of Camelot.

"Combining my past technological experience with my passion for gaming is something I've wanted to do for years, and at Red 5, I have the opportunity," he added.
