Realtime Worlds/Tiga deal

Dundee-based developer joins UK trade body.

6th August 2008

Realtime Worlds, one of Scotland’s leading games developers, has joined Tiga. Founded in 2002 and based in Dundee, Realtime Worlds’ 2007 double-BAFTA winning hit ‘Crackdown’ cemented its staff’s strong track record of producing highly original and commercially successful video games, including the global hit franchises ‘Lemmings’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto’. Their string of awards continued last week, when Realtime Worlds won the ‘Business Development’ category at the 2008 Develop Industry Excellence Awards.

Dave Jones, CEO and Creative Director of Realtime Worlds, said:

“The time is right for Realtime Worlds to join Tiga. Realtime Worlds has been greatly encouraged by Tiga’s increased levels of activity on many fronts and by its determination to represent games developers throughout the UK. We urge other games developers, particularly in Scotland, to work with Tiga in advancing the cause of the games development sector. Realtime Worlds is looking forward to working with Tiga in the months and years ahead.”

Richard Wilson, CEO of Tiga, said:

“I am delighted by Realtime Worlds’ decision to join Tiga. Realtime Worlds is one of the most respected games development businesses in the UK, producing games of the highest quality and originality.

“Tiga is changing. We are engaging more effectively with politicians and with policy makers, we are raising the media profile of the video games industry and we are expanding the range of services available to Tiga members. Realtime Worlds’ accession to Tiga is a vote of confidence in our new strategy.

“Games developers must work together if we are to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business. Tiga already provides a powerful voice for the video games industry in political and governmental circles. If more games businesses follow Realtime Worlds’ lead and join Tiga, we will be able to represent the games development industry still more effectively, in Scotland, England and indeed, throughout the UK.”

Notes to editors:

1. Tiga is the national trade association that represents games developers in the UK and in Europe. We have 157 members, the majority of whom are games developers, but we also have outsourcing companies and technology businesses as members who provide services to games developers.

2. Tiga’s vision is to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business. We work to achieve this goal in two ways. Firstly, Tiga aims to influence the Government, political parties, the media and other relevant stakeholders to introduce and support policies favourable to the video games industry. Secondly, Tiga provides a range of benefits and services which serve to reduce costs, enhance commercial opportunities and strengthen the overall competitiveness of our members.
