PSP still dominates during Japanese Golden Week

Holiday week sees rise in Nintendo software sales, but 3DS still in second place

The PSP has remained the number one selling hardware format during the Golden Week series of holidays in Japan, despite the period traditionally being favourable to Nintendo products.

With many smaller shops shut for the majority of the week, sales during Golden Week are traditionally low, although with spikes for family-friendly products - as can be seen from some of the older Nintendo titles rising up to the bottom of the software top 10.

However, the PSP remained comfortably the best-selling hardware format, despite falling from its pre-holiday high of 76,974 units to 54,882. By comparison the 3DS saw sales increase by only 1,000 units to 29,149, according to early data obtained by Andrisang.

Most of the other formats saw similarly mild fluctuations, with the PlayStation 3 down by 3,000 units to 20,883 and the Wii up a little less than 1,000 to 11,520. The Nintendo DS family of consoles stood at 19,516 unit sales and the Xbox 360 at 3,419.

There were no new entries in the whole software top 20, with Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional on DS remaining at number one with 43,886 units sold.

Patapon 3 rose two places to number two with 21,546 unit sales and Konami's Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 on PSP jumped four places to number three on 20,090 units sold.
