Pro Evo coming to mobile phones

Konami's hit football franchise to kick off on mobiles in March

Konami of Europe has announced plans to release a new Pro Evolution Soccer game for mobile phones as part of a continuing expansion of the company's mobile content portfolio.

Pro Evolution Soccer Mobile (working title) is a 2D single player game that will feature the same AI used in PC, PS2 and Xbox title Pro Evo 5. The game will be released via the publisher's new Konami Net download portal, with a list of providers and compatible handsets still to be announced. Konami did confirm that PES Mobile will be available through "all major download services in Europe", however.

The announcement is billed as a further demonstration of Konami Europe's commitment to expanding its newly-founded mobile content division. The publisher has already confirmed mobile versions of popular franchises such as Castlevania, Frogger and Silent Scope, and promises that more titles, game-related wallpapers and audio files will follow.

"Pro Evolution Soccer is one of Konami of Europe's most recognized and successful titles," said Konami Europe president Kunio Neo.

"We intend to bring it to mobile users in a form that will do justice to such a well-loved franchise, and see Pro Evolution Soccer Mobile as a key title as we look to extend awareness of Konami's mobile content."

Konami Europe has previously announced plans to extend its mobile games business to more than 46 European territories, along with Middle Eastern, African and Oceanic regions.
