Mobile graphics chip maker's "ecosystem" now boasts 5,000 members.

Imagination Technologies, Austin Games Developers Conference – Stand 115

Austin, USA - September 15, 2008 - Imagination Technologies, the leader in mobile and embedded graphics technologies, reports Imagination’s POWERVR Insider ecosystem (, which brings together developers, chip companies and handset manufacturers, has over 5,000 members to date and is growing at around 400 members per month. POWERVR graphics acceleration technology has now been shipped in over 100 million consumer products.

Says Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination Technologies: “There are now more phones with POWERVR 3D in user’s hands than there are current generation games consoles and the leading POWERVR enabled titles are selling over 100,000 units a week. This makes mobile 3D applications an attractive target for developers and our POWERVR Insider ecosystem now has over 5,000 members as a result.”

The POWERVR Insider SDK continues to remain developers’ preferred development environment for the creation of OpenGL ES 2.0 as well as OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenVG applications. This includes a complete PC-based emulation environment, combined with Imagination’s unrivalled technical support, making POWERVR graphics the technology of choice.

The latest version of the SDK is being launched at Austin GDC from 15-17 September 2008. Developers will be able to see Imagination’s SDK and tools demonstrated on Stand 115.

New features include: completely reworked remote performance profiler; fully annotated GLSL compiler with HW cycles per instruction; shader composer support for DirectX® 10; and PVRTexTool support for all DirectX 10, OpenVG and NGage's NGT texture formats.

Yen-Kwoon Hun, VP technology, IUGO Mobile Entertainment Inc says: “Let me congratulate Imagination on a job well done on the SDK. Having worked with all kinds of development environments within the mobile space, the PowerVR SDK is pretty pain-free and just simply works."

John Chasey, CEO Metismo says: “Imagination have a long heritage in 3D with their POWERVR technology and they are the ideal partner to provide a trusted OpenGL ES implementation.”

Imagination has also recently appointed Marque Pierre Søndergaard with responsibility for further strengthening Imagination’s 3rd party relationships. He will be responsible for driving the swelling community to its next level of dynamism and utility, and ensuring POWERVR Insider delivers real value to all its members.

Says Søndergaard: “We want the support of our 3rd party developers to match the level of excellence for which our graphics core technology is renowned.

POWERVR Insider is a key component of the support and knowledge sharing we offer to all levels of developers. Our new online forum will become a focal point for the discussion of POWERVR hardware and software applications as well as key community news and issues. It is intended to be the informal ‘fast track’ that allows application developers to get to Imagination’s key engineers instantly, as well as a tool to engage in dialogue with innovative developers across our global ecosystem.”
