PlayStation Network to get new music and video service

Vidzone to launch in Q1 2009 and offer music on demand

Sony has detailed a new downloadable music and video service for the PS3 called Vidzone, due to go live in 2009.

Vidzone is a free service designed to offer easy access to music on demand. Users will be able to build and save a music library, make their own playlists and access it remotely via PSP.

Users will also be able to download ringtones to a mobile phone "for a very small fee" according to Sony Europe boss David Reeves.

There will be two services in PAL markets for music and movie content. Vidzone will launch in Q1 2009, with the music service for PSP and PS3 launching later in Q3.
