Player X announced as Finalist for 207 Red Herring 100 Awards

Mobile media company Player X has been selected as one of the finalists for the 2007 Red Herring 100 Europe Awards, which recognises the top 100 private ventures in Europe.

The news follows the company's debut at No 17 in the O2 50 To Watch in Mobile list earlier this year and underscores the progress Player X has made since its incorporation in December, 2004.

Innovative moves such as the company's unique made-for-mobile channel geekTV and its Retrosode video content based on brands such as Miami Vice, Knightrider and Magnum, P.I. have caught the eye not only of Red Herring, but many decision-makers in the mobile industry.

"Being announced as Red Herring 100 Finalist is a testament to the hard work the whole team has put in. We define ourselves as a mobile media company and our achievements in games, TV, video underline this. We're looking for more recognition over the rest of the year," said Tony Pearce, Player X CEO.

"This year's impressive list, and unprecedented number of submissions from companies demonstrates Europe's emergence as a major player in the global technology sector," said Red Herring Editor-in-Chief, Joel Dreyfuss. "The exceptional accomplishments of European technology companies and entrepreneurs are a testament to the rapid advancements being made in building the European innovation ecosystem."

Red Herring's editorial staff rigorously evaluated more than 700 private companies through a careful analysis of financial data and subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development.

In recent months Player X has continued to make an impact in the emerging mobile video market and following its successful launch with 3 UK, the company has sold its mobile TV channel geekTV to territories as disparate as India, Chile, Brazil, Malaysia and Scandinavia.

Furthermore, the company has ramped up its presence in the mobile games market by partnering with companies such as Sky TV, EMI Music and extending its relationship with FremantleMedia by adding a PrizePlay element to evergreen titles such as Family Fortunes and The Price Is Right.
