German PC specialist Kalypso Media has opened a UK office and appointed former Codemasters VP of Northern Europe Jonathan Hales as its managing director.

The publisher focuses on mid-price PC games with distribution and development duties outsourced to keep costs low.

"I'm delighted and excited to be setting up Kalypso Media UK, which promises to be challenging, but extremely rewarding also," commented Hales.

"My aim is to set strong foundations for the company and to develop relationships with partners in the UK and around the world from which growth will become organic. We want to be self reliant and offer a win-win business model for all our partners."

The publisher plans a series of offices in other key territories, all run as independent outfits.

The company's first batch of titles includes Hollywood Pictures 2, Star Assault and Universal Boxing Manager, all due next month.
