Originality Sells

Relentless celebrate Top 5 success with ‘Buzz!™: The Music Quiz’

11th January 2006. Brighton, UK. Relentless Software has proven that originality sells. Their innovative trivia quiz title - 'Buzz!: The Music Quiz'-not only took a coveted spot (no.4) in the Full Price PlayStation 2 Christmas top 5 and no. 15 in the full price all formats charts but is the ONLY original i.e. non-sequel, non-licensed game in the entire Top 20!*

Bucking the trend by developing original lifestyle/social games Relentless worked closely with SCEE in developing Buzz to appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers. The innovative buzzers, instead of joypads, being key to game's success.

Andrew Eades, Development Director and co-founder of Relentless commented, 'We're clearly delighted to have a hit on our hands but quite shocked to see that it's the only original title in the entire Top 20. Still, it goes to show that with the right concept supported by strong sales and marketing original titles can be very successful, even at Christmas.' He continued, 'Sony are definitely ahead in the lifestyle/social games market - they've made huge strides in this area and that can only be good for the industry as a whole.'

David Wilson, Head of PR, UK, SCEE added, 'PlayStation 2 is now a feature in over 8 million UK homes - yet we are still guilty of having a very male bias in our average users. Fresh and original titles like Buzz (and also EyeToy and SingStar) are helping us to bring the joys of PlayStation to a much wider demographic, from young to old, male to female. Buzz is brilliant and defeating the commonly held stereotypes about PlayStation gaming - it is a real social gaming experience = literally fun for everyone to get involved, a 21st century parlour game!'

Buzz: The Music Quiz - the first in a buzzing new range of quiz shows where you and your friends are the contestants! Featuring 5000 individually prepared music questions - with over 1000 music clips spanning six decades of music - Buzz is the ultimate test of musical knowledge.

Coming complete with four specially made buzzers, Buzz is a music quiz that anyone can play, appealing to anyone who's ever listened to the radio!

  • A fantastic new quiz game, complete with four specially made buzzers
