OnLive game streaming service unveiled

AAA titles to run remotely on PCs and TV through broadband connections

WebTV founder Steve Perlman and former Eidos CEO Mike McGarvey have unveiled OnLive, a streaming videogames service.

The digital distribution technology allows consumers to run high-end AAA games remotely through any Intel-based Mac or PC running XP or Vista, regardless of system specification.

In addition, games will also run on home TVs through a small console-like device and controller. On both home computers and TVs, videogame quality will be scaled between high and standard definition depending on the speed of the user's connection.

OnLive will also feature a robust multiplayer service, according to CNET, with functionality including friends, clans, rankings, leader boards, tournaments and more.

McGarvey claimed that nine third-party publishers have committed to being involved with the project, with the companies eager for the user data the online service could provide.
