The market for online games in Taiwan is set to exceed USD 300 million (EUR 219m) in 2007, according to new data from Pearl Research.

The research also finds that games developers and publishers believe that free-to-play MMO's are more profitable than subscription-based titles, with consumers willing to pay for virtual items and services that enhance gameplay.

While massively multiplayer role-playing games represent the largest portion of the market, casual gaming is growing to an expected 35 per cent of the online games market in the region.

The low costs of playing games (around USD 12 per month) and high internet penetration are also cited as driving growth in the market.
