Not Being There

Game Music Inc. doing the soundtrack for Neverwinter Nights 2-engined action-RPG mod.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NEW YORK, NY, March 9, 2009—Game Music Inc. ( www.gamemusicinc.com), a newly formed game music studio combining the intimacy of a boutique with the depth of talent of the largest firm, has been tapped by X Points Studio to provide music and sound design for Not Being There, an experimental action-RPG Mod based on the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine tentatively slated for release in August 2009.

"Game Music Inc. has consistently exceeded my expectations with the highest caliber of professionalism, quality of work, and commitment,” said Alexander Horn, Lead Designer, X Points Studios. “The music is perfect, the turnaround ridiculously fast, and communication goes above and beyond. You get the sense that these guys not only are obsessed with perfection in what they do, but care about the audience, community, and game as a whole."

Described as a “videogame about videogames,” Not Being There examines the existential quality of games by questioning standard videogame design and stimulating alternative approaches. Deconstructing such standard elements as genre, narrative, gameplay, and meaning, Not Being There is not your typical connect-the-dots big game release, which is one of the reasons why X Points selected Game Music Inc.

"We are so excited to be working on this title,” said Mike Worth, Founder, Game Music Inc. “Our team is comprised of games-obsessed composers who understand that game music composition has its own unique logic, which is why we bring not only the right sensibility to the game, but the chops that enable us to switch on a dime, from a rising orchestral sequence to the wackiest, most disjointed Raymond Scott-style cartoon-theme.”

The teaser trailer for Not Being There is now available at www.gamemusicinc.com. In addition, Game Music Inc.’s Mike Worth and board member Steve Horowitz will be presenting at the Interactive Audio Special Interest Group (IASIG) Town Hall Meeting at the 2009 GDC on Friday, March 27. Mike and Steve are Co-Chairs of the Game Audio Education Workgroup, and are proud to release a brand-new undergraduate game audio curriculum, created by interaction between some of video game's top audio professionals, and university professors at several universities.
