Nordic Game Conference unveils Discovery Day
Event will "focus on the innovative and artful aspects" of game design
The Nordic Game Conference, taking place in Malmo from May17-19, has announced a new Discovery Day event to close out the show - a day celebrating the most innovative, artistic and forward-thinking examples of the game-making craft which will take place on the 19th.
The Discovery Day and Showcase will cover much of what was previously part of what was the Indie Day, but organisers have decided that the description was unhelpful and divisive, instead choosing to focus on the spirit of creativity which was being celebrated under the term.
"The time has come to leave the somewhat dividing and confusing 'indie' appellation behind and focus on what brings developers together," a press release reads. "Thus the new Discovery Day will still be a playful and fun experience, with a primary focus on the innovative and artful aspects of game development."
Continuing the traditions of previous Indie Days, The Copenhagen Game Collective will be playing a considerable part in helping to organise the day's events, which include a full day of talks, a chance to play all the games nominated for the finals of the Discovery Day contest itself, and the live-pitching judging final itself, which will be presided over by a panel including keynote speaker Fumito Ueda. In addition to the live panel, there will be the award of the Discovery Day game of the year prize and the 2017 Sensation of the Year in a ceremony at the end of the day, alongside a raft of other prizes.
Attendance of the Discovery Day and Showcase is covered by the general conference tickets, but stand alone tickets are also available for €59.
This year, as part of a deeper media partnership with the show, GamesIndustry.biz will be running a speaker track throughout all three days of the program. If you're interested in taking part as a speaker, please email Dan.Pearson@gamesindustry.biz. Sponsorship opportunities for the track, and the wider show, can also be discussed with Charlotte.Nangle@gamesindustry.biz.
