Nintendo's New Zealand distributor goes bust

Publisher's future in the country uncertain as SPI placed in receivership

The New Zealand distributor for a number of videogames companies, including Nintendo, Activision and Logitech, has been placed into receivership.

SPI (Softprint Interactive) has been taken over by receivers KordaMetha, who will now liaise with suppliers before making any decisions on the future, according to nzherald.co.nz.

"We're just assessing what we've got here," said KordMetha partner Michael Stiassny. "Once we've done that it will give us a better understanding on the way forward."

According to the report, retailers in the country were made aware of problems several weeks ago, although Nintendo Australia - the publisher's local office - declined to comment, adding that it had not yet received official notification.
