Nielsen Media Research has announced the launch of GamePlay Metrics, a service designed to track gameplayers' habits for the use of companies in the advertising market.

Nielsen Media Research has announced the launch of GamePlay Metrics, a service designed to track gameplayers' habits for the use of companies in the advertising market.

GamePlay Metrics aims to provide advertisers, agencies, developers and hardware manufacturers with quantitative demographic data on gameplayers' regular habits and consumption of gaming media.

Other media consumption will be collated as it relates to gaming, as the company samples and records gaming from a database of cooperative households.

Clients will receive a ratings and rankings chart on a weekly basis, revealing the most played video games, when the service begins in 2007.
