Namco to bring Popeye to mobiles

Publisher strikes deal with King Features

Namco Networks is to bring 80's arcade hit Popeye to mobile phones, based on the original character who first saw print in 1929.

Through a deal with King Features, distributor of comics, editorial cartoons and puzzles to newspapers, Popeye will feature modes and characters not included in the original arcade game.

"Popeye is a mass-market icon that has been entertaining adults and kids alike for decades," commented Scott Rubin, VP of sales and marketing for Namco Networks.

"We are excited to add Popeye to our line-up of top-selling arcade classic mobile games, which includes Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug and others."
