Strong performance in both the arcade and home console sectors have given Namco extremely strong performance in FY2004, with the company reporting rising sales and a major climb in profitability for the full year.

The Japanese publisher recorded operating profit of 15.4 billion Yen (114 million Euro), up 63 per cent on the previous year's figure, on sales of 172.6 billion Yen (1.3 billion Euro), up 11.5 per cent.

Net profit for the full year was 7.55 billion Yen (56 million Euro), up a massive 83 per cent on the previous year's figure.

Namco had a number of successful titles during calendar 2003, with drumming game Taiko no Tatsujin on PS2 proving a huge hit in Japan (and spinning off a no doubt lucrative contract to create Donkey Konga for Nintendo), while Soul Calibur 2 performed strongly both in Japan and abroad. RPG titles such as Xenosaga Episode I and Tales of Symphonia also proved successful for the publisher during the year.

The company will no doubt be hoping to continue its revenue growth in the current financial year - which should see such money-spinners as the next Tekken title (and spin-off game Death by Degrees), the second episode in the Xenosaga series and the overseas launches of Taiko no Tatsujin.
