Mythical Games closes $19m funding round

Former Telltale Games CEO Pete Hawley joins company as CPO

Game technology outfit Mythical Games has closed a funding round worth $19 million, bringing total funding to $35 million to date.

The round was led by Javelin Venture Partners, joined by new and existing investors Avon Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Hashed, Galaxy Digital and Struck Capital.

Founded by Activision Blizzard veterans in 2018, Mythical Games specialises in digital ecosystems around player-owned economies; it's flagship software Blankos Block Party is a game creator and MMO.

"Since investing in Mythical's Series A round last year, we have been incredibly impressed by the team's execution on the build out of Blankos Block Party and the Mythical Platform," said Alex Gurevich of Javelin Venture Partners.

Along with the investment, Mythical has made four major hires to its leadership team with Jeff Poffenbarger, Pete Hawley, Nicole Yang, and Greg Deutsch.

Poffenbarger joins as COO from his previous position of studio head at Oculus VR; former Telltale Games CEO Hawley joins as CPO; Yang joins as vice president of marketing, coming over from her role as vice president of marketing at Telltale Games; and Deutsch joins as Mythical's general counsel, from his previous position of general counsel and senior vice president of business and legal affairs at Activision.

Additionally, Mythical has appointed to its board of directors London Venture Partners' Alex Gurevich, and independent board member Rehito Hatoyama, formerly global COO of Sanrio, Hello Kitty.
