Moblie Casual Gamer

Online games increase in popularity.

Who plays online and mobile casual games? Who plays what kind of games? Which activities are important to casual gamers? What is their consumer behaviour like? Where do they spend their money? Social scientists, teachers and the games industry have recently tried to find the answers. “Those who know the consumer’s behaviour are able to fulfill the demands of huge numbers of casual gamers”, says Eberhard Dürrschmid, CEO Greentube and casual games expert. He also points out that the online gaming community has grown by 30 percent in 2009 only. At present male mobile phone users are the “mobile download kings”. It is also surprising that there have been more paid game downloads via HTC devices than via iPhone.

Greentube GmbH surveyed target groups of online and mobile games in cooperation with the research institute gamematrix. The results were put down in a study on the demography and user behaviour of online and mobile casual gamers. The study is based on current data provided by (among others) Greentube, the digital research institute comScore and the Today’s Gamers Study 2009 as well as research results of the associations BITKOM and BVDW.

The study will be presented in detail at the Games Convention Online, taking place from 8th to 10th July at the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL), Germany. On Friday, 9th July, professional visitors, publisher, developer and journalists can ask their questions at the panel “Online and Mobile Casual Gamers: What are the Differences and What Can Mobile Learn from Online?”

Journalists can order the main results of the study online at http://www.11prozent.de/deutsch/studie_OMCGe.html (with blocking embargo)
