Critical Force nets $6.3m investment to scale esports operation
Business Finland backs mobile developer as flagship title hits 40 million downloads
Finnish mobile developer Critical Force has raised $6.3 million funding to scale the growth of its flagship game, Critical Ops.
The mobile esports FPS has over 40 million downloads, and the funds will be channelled towards operation of a global Critical Ops esports system.
Despite having been released in 2015, Critical Ops is still in beta but a full launch is planned for summer 2018.
Funded by public grant organisation Business Finland, the cash injection will also be used to develop and deploy a "scalable automated production platform" to aid with development and testing of the Critical Force's games.
Additionally, the developer plans to build a suit of tools for data analysis, along with new game server software.
"With the new funding we are happy to have the opportunity to really show our hands regarding our status as the number one developer of mobile esports FPS games," said CEO Veli-Pekka Piirainen.
"The news of the funding coincided beautifully with us reaching 40 million downloads as well as our very first Critical Ops live tournament in Seattle with $40,000 prize pool."
