Microsoft to link 360 to Facebook, Twitter

Friends, photos and status updates to make their way to the Xbox dashboard

Microsoft has unveiled Facebook and Twitter functionality for the Xbox 360 at its E3 press conference in Los Angeles today.

Presented on-stage by The Guild creator Felicia Wilson, the new services will debut this Autumn, and will include the ability to link Xbox Live friends with their Facebook profiles, and share photos and status updates.

Additionally, users will be able to capture moments in-games and upload them instantly to the Facebook application - although this would only be available for specific games at launch.

The ability to update Twitter was also announced, which again links into the user's internet application, publishing simultaneously.

The social networking functionality was unveiled alongside a host of other announcements, including a raft of software reveals and the launch of a new motion-capture camera technology called Project Natal.
