Gamers in the United States will be able to get their hands on a limited edition Halo Xbox pack as of next week, with the $169 bundle featuring a transparent green Xbox, branded controller and copy of the game.

Launching on April 16th, the pack has a limited production run of 200,000 units, which - despite Microsoft's suggestions that fans will have to be quick to get hold of one - should probably mean that there are plenty to go around regardless of the "limited edition" strapline.

European gamers will already be familiar with the translucent green Xbox console, which launched here last year, and has been followed this year with the arrival of a "crystal" fully transparent system. The Japanese market has also seen launches of several limited edition hardware sets, but so far the USA has been generally overlooked when preparing new Xbox versions.

Last month, Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox in the United States to $149, which makes the Halo bundle - at only $20 more, and including the best selling game on the platform - into an attractive proposition in price terms.

According to a Microsoft UK spokesperson this morning, "there are no plans to introduce this bundle into the European market" - unsurprising, since the green Xbox has already had its day at European retail.
