Microsoft Surface Pro coming Jan 2013, starting at $899

The next Surface has been dated and priced

Microsoft has announced pricing and a release window for its second tablet, Surface with Windows 8 Pro. In a post on the Official Microsoft Blog, Microsoft Surface general manager Panos Panay revealed that the Surface Pro will be available in January 2013.

Unlike its little brother, the Nvidia Tegra 3-powered Surface RT, the Surface Pro runs a full installation of Windows 8. The tablet will start at $899 for the 64GB unit with a second 128GB version for $999. Neither option will come with the Touch or Type Cover Microsoft has been showing off.

Internally, both Surface Pro units will feature Intel's next-gen Core i5 processor and a 10.6-inch 16:9 ClearType display at 1920x1080 resolution. A full-size USB 3.0 port and mini DisplayPort are among the I/O options for the tablet. Finally, Microsoft is touting the bundled Surface Pen for pen input, with Palm Block technology to shut out touch control when the pen is in use.
