Microsoft integrating Kinect with video conferencing tool Lync
Business tech joins motion controller's 'three-screen' communication concept
Microsoft is integrating Kinect's video chat capabilities with its business video conferencing service, Lync, previously known as Office Communicator.
The move will allow the Lync platform, which is designed to facilitate video conferencing across different types of technology and servers, to become part of Video Kinect's 'three-screen' concept.
"What we've done is really connected the living room scenario with the work scenario, which I call the dads to kids scenario," said Microsoft's Gurdeep Singh Paul. "We think that's a very important capability."
Video Kinect already allows users to video chat to Windows PC users and Windows Phone 7 owners, as well as other Kinect units. The software update to allow the crossover will come as part of a free download 'soon', according to Microsoft.
