Nintendo of Europe has announced that senior marketing director Jim Merrick is to return to his native US, where he will take on a new position at Nintendo of America.

Nintendo of Europe has announced that senior marketing director Jim Merrick is to return to his native US, where he will take on a new position at Nintendo of America following a three-year stint with the European division of the firm.

"Jim joined Nintendo of Europe three years ago on a short term contract from Nintendo America and is now returning to continue to progress his career with the company," Nintendo said in a statement.

"His replacement will be announced in the coming weeks."

Merrick worked for 4D Graphics before joining Nintendo ten years ago as a software engineering manager. He was responsible for overseeing GameCube hardware and software development, and worked on Nintendo's online gaming strategy with Saturo Iwata.

Merrick joined Nintendo Europe in 2003, and has most recently been in charge of the hugely successful launch of the Nintendo DS and its Wi-Fi Connection service in PAL territories.
