Mario Kart Wii passes 1 million in Japan

Nintendo's racing title continues its strong sales performance as Monster Hunter Portable edges towards 2 million

Mario Kart Wii sold another 174,000 units in Japan for the sales week ending May 4, keeping it top of the charts and taking it past the 1 million mark, according to the latest data from Media Create.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G remained second, selling just over 100,000 units, and taking its lifetime sales in Japan to over 1.9 million.

Link's Crossbow Training was a new entry in third, shifting 92,500 copies, while Wii Fit saw a slight resurgence in sales, bringing it back up to fourth place and very likely to hit the 2 million mark within the next few days.

Taiko Drum Master DS: Seven Island Adventure was fifth, followed by Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage and We're Fossil Diggers in sixth and seventh.

Valkyria Chronicles was eighth, followed by Deca Sports and Wii Sports which completed the top ten.

That means that there were 364,000 Wii titles sold in the top ten across the week, compared to 102,000 for the PlayStation Portable, 100,000 for the Nintendo DS and 24,000 for the PlayStation 3.
