Lionsgate acquires Dead Island film rights

Movie based on Deep Silver's zombie hit in early development stage

Entertainment company Lionsgate will make a film based on Deep Silver's zombie release, Dead Island.

"Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck," said Joe Drake, co-COO and motion picture group president.

"This is exactly the type of property we're looking to adapt at Lionsgate - it's sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love.  It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential."

The Sean Daniel Company and Stefan Sonnenfeld are currently listed as producers, and the motion picture is in the very early stages of development.

On release, Dead Island faced a number of technical problems, but the game went straight to the top of UK retail charts, and sold more in two weeks than any other Deep Silver game has in its entire lifetime.
