LEGO FEST 2010

Giant Super Mario mosaic to be built from LEGO at Museum of Computing event in Swindon.

On Saturday 11 th December, the Museum of Computing in Swindon will be staging an event combining two favourite activities of children of all ages, the creative world of the LEGO brick and computer gaming.  The highlight of the day will be the creation of a giant Super Mario mosaic built from nearly 9000 LEGO tiles!

Everyone is welcome to take a part in the mosaic creation and also in the ‘great tile counting competition’. A fantastic LEGO set is waiting for the winner!

Visitors will be able to make their own games characters from LEGO bricks and there will be a chance to play LEGO computer games including N64 LEGO Racers, LEGO Indiana Jones and LEGO Star Wars. For budding robotics engineers, there will be an opportunity to program their own LEGO MINDSTORMS ® robot.

Simon Webb, Curator of the Museum of Computing said: ‘It’s going to be an awesome day out for everybody.  I have to admit a serious passion for LEGO and for computer gaming, this event is a bit of a dream come true.’

About the Museum of Computing

The Museum of Computing was the first dedicated computer museum in the UK, opening in 2003. It is a non-for-profit Company limited by guarantee and is run entirely by volunteers. The museum has a collection of over 3000 objects related to the history of computing and holds regular exhibitions and events.

·      The museum is in Swindon town centre at 6-7 Theatre Square, Swindon SN1 1QN, at the top of Regent Street close to the new Central Library.

·      Opening times are: Saturdays from 9.30am to 5pm and Mondays from 10am to 4pm.

·      There is a classroom for talks, PC clinics, gaming events, childrens computer club, adult computer classes and school visits.
