Just Dance 2 breaks Wii sales records

Ubisoft title is top selling third party Wii game ever

Ubisoft Paris' Just Dance 2 is now the top selling third party Wii game ever, according to figures reported by the NPD.

The dance title has been at the top of the charts since October 2010 when it was released.

"Ubisoft is incredibly proud of the monumental success Just Dance 2 has had the past nine months," said president of Ubisoft North America Laurent Detoc.

"The game’s outstanding performance solidifies the Just Dance brand as a pop culture phenomenon. We’re excited to bring fans that are eagerly awaiting the release of Just Dance 3 in October a new selection of dance tracks to play with Just Dance Summer Party."

The Just Dance franchise also includes the original Just Dance and Just Dance Kid, and together the titles have a global sell in total of 14 million units. Just Dance Summer Party will be released on July 19.

On Tuesday Ubisoft announced it had acquired free to play company Owlient. At the time Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO, spoke about the company's commitment to the young female demographic.

"We know those customers. We know what they like, so we we continue to invest in that category just because we know their wishes and we know how to fulfil them. The company is learning how to give those young girls want they want."
