Jump into Spain for Electronics Boutique

US specialist retailer Electronics Boutique has announced the acquisition of Spanish computer retail chain Jump Ordenadores SLU, marking an aggressive move into Europe's fourth largest videogames market for the company.

Jump is a retailer of PCs and related products, and operates 141 stores across Spain - to which Electronics Boutique plans to introduce videogames hardware and software over the coming months.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but it's the most aggressive move yet by EB into the European market - and comes in the wake of the announcement that EB is to complete a merger with one-time arch-rival GameStop later this year.

That merger will create the world's largest videogames retailer, and both companies have been open about their ambitious expansion plans in Europe - where GameStop is currently in the process of planning stores in the United Kingdom, while EB is focusing more on continental Europe.

"Extending our proven business model into international markets has long been one of our key strategic initiatives," explained EB's CEO Jeffrey Griffiths. "As such, we are very pleased that we will have an established foothold in Spain, the fourth largest video game market in Europe. The management team at Jump consists of strong retailers with many years of experience in the Spanish market, making them ideal partners for this next phase of our international growth."
