Jagex appoints Jon Hare as head of publishing

Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder developer joins UK's largest independent publisher

Jon Hare has been appointed head of publishing at Jagex Games Studio, following a 24 year career in game development.

Hare has games industry experience spanning over three decades, during which time he has developed over 30 games on more than 20 different platforms. His new role will see him oversee publishing at Jagex, with a focus on further developing FunOrb.com, the company's online gaming portal.

"Jagex is a traditional and very British games development company as well as being one of Europe’s most successful publishers," said Hare. "I am really excited to be joining the team and I feel very at home here. I am looking forward to working alongside the management team to help nurture the mentality of innovation and expansion that already exists here and to grow FunOrb into the world’s leading online games destination."

"Jon is one of the most highly rated game designers in Europe and has had a hugely successful career developing classic titles such as Sensible Soccer, Mega-Lo-Mania and Cannon Fodder," added Mark Gerhard, Jagex CEO. "Jon will be playing a very hands-on role, actively engaged in developing and optimising all of our games."

Jagex Games is the largest independent games developer and publisher in the UK, employing over 400 staff across two studios in Cambridge.

As well as his extensive experience within game development, Hare was named by The Times earlier this year as one of the top ten Britons who has changed the games industry.
