Iwata promises 45 games for Wii this summer

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that the company is developing 45 new software titles for Wii and a further 79 for Nintendo DS.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that the company is developing 45 new software titles for Wii and a further 79 for Nintendo DS.

Iwata's comments came during a Tokyo press conference, as reported by Bloomberg.

He did not reveal any specific game names or release dates, but did state that the next batch of games are due out at the end of summer.

Nintendo has been criticised by some industry watchers who have claimed the range of software currently available for the Wii is limited. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz last week a spokesperson said, "There are already over 44 games available for Wii and an additional 78 titles available for download via the Virtual Console service - so there's already a huge range of titles for everyone that is growing by the week."

As announced on Thursday, Nintendo posted a 77 per cent rise in profits for the quarter ending March 31 and revealed that 123 million DS games and 29 million Wii games were sold over the course of the financial year.
