Irem's R-Type headed to mobiles
Elite Systems brings classic shoot 'em up to handsets

UK-based handheld development specialist Elite Systems has announced that the classic shoot 'em up title R-Type is set to be ported to mobile devices.
The game, which was originally launched by Irem in the 80s and became a benchmark for all scrolling shooters, will be launched across Europe in late May.
"Put simply... R-Type is the definitive 80s shooter," enthused Elite managing director Steve Wilcox. "No arcade game fan worthy of the name should be without it."
The game has been converted to many different platforms, and updates to the franchise have been issued periodically - although the developers are adamant that PS2 title R-Type Final is, in fact, the last new game in the series.
