Gaming tournament's servers upgraded.

Cologne, March 1, 2011 – Turtle Entertainment, the organizer of the Electronic Sports League (ESL), Europe's largest online platform for competitive gaming, announced today that it has completed its extensive server upgrade using Supermicro's latest Intel® Xeon®-based platforms.

The joint collaboration between Turtle and Supermicro began in September 2010 with the common goal to bring a better online experience to the ESL's more than 2.8 million registered users. Supermicro provided the servers based on the latest energy-efficient Intel® Xeon® processor family to upgrade the aging infrastructure. These new servers allow for a completely new database server structure that addresses the increasing traffic and growing computing demands of the ESL platform.

"Turtle recognizes Supermicro's leadership in server advancements for today's demanding, complex server installations," said Turtle Entertainment Managing Director, Ralf Reichert. "Turtle has stringent performance and power requirements and Supermicro's Intel-based servers deliver on all aspects. It's all about platform balance."

"At Supermicro, our design philosophy and methodology are rooted in green computing," said Tau Leng, GM of Corp. Marketing and HPC Solutions at Supermicro. "Our innovative balanced servers with high-performance system design and power-saving technologies deliver end-to-end gaming infrastructure while providing performance per watt advantage to the ESL datacenter."

With its database servers upgraded to the Supermicro SuperServer powered by the Intel® Xeon® 7500 processor series, and its web servers replaced by the Supermicro SuperServer with the Intel® Xeon® 5600 processor series, ESL can now meet its users' ever-increasing demands and expectations.

"We are thrilled that members of the Electronic Sports League can now enjoy an enhanced gaming experience," said Boyd Davis, General Manager and Vice President of Data Center Group Marketing at Intel. "As cloud computing continues to accelerate around the world, Intel is delivering the key ingredients that empower and connect next-generation businesses."

ESL, Supermicro, and Intel will be exhibiting in Hall 23 at CeBIT during the Intel Extreme Masters tournament.
