In brief: this week's game announcements

Sonic, EVE, Warhammer, Contra and more...

Each week GamesIndustry.biz brings you a round-up of the latest game announcements from the past five days, plus a look at new titles released this weekend in Europe.

Sega and Bioware are collaborating on a RPG based on Sonic the Hedgehog. Developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS, the new title is expected to be released sometime in 2008. The blue hedgehog will also return to the PSP in Sonic Rivals 2, due this winter.

CCP has released EVE Online: Revelations II, an expansion to the popular space MMOG. The expansion hopes to deliver some of the most advanced strategic, military and economic elements seen in a massively multiplayer online game, and is available to download now.

2K Sports has announced NHL 2K8 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The latest sports sim is due this winter.

Koei is combining its two leading franchises to create Warriors Orochi. The Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors crossover will arrive in US stores on September 18, for Xbox 360 and PS3.

THQ continues to make the most of its Warhammer signing with the announcement of PSP strategy title Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command. No release date has been set.

D3 Publisher of America has announced new IP Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire. Developed exclusively for the Wii by Land Ho! the action game is due for release this autumn.

Sierra Entertainment has revealed that PC action-strategy title World In Conflict will also be making an appearance on the Xbox 360. Massive Entertainment is to oversee development at the UK's Swordfish Studios, with a release expected this autumn.

Konami is to bring the long-running Contra series to the DS. Contra 4 is in development at WayForward Technologies and expected to be released towards the end of this year.

Konami has also announced Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for Xbox 360, PC, PS3, PSP and DS, to be released before Christmas.

Electronic Arts has revealed EA Playground, a collection of mini-games for the Wii and DS. Developed by EA Canada the game is due for release this autumn.
