Ignition polishes up a sequel to Archer Maclean's PSP puzzler

Ignition Entertainment has confirmed a September release for its latest PSP title, Mercury Meltdown, with development on the sequel to Archer Maclean's Mercury apparently unaffected by the resignation of its creative director.

Mercury was originally released as a launch title for Sony's PSP in the US, receiving strong critical acclaim and proving popular with European gamers when it arrived here several months later.

A sequel was announced some time ago, although there was some doubt cast on the future of the project when Archer Maclean unexpectedly resigned from his position as creative director at developer Awesome Studios.

Ignition has promised to listen carefully to customer feedback on the original, offering a fairer game progression, multiplayer wireless modes, party games, new gameplay mechanics, more than 160 levels and future downloadable content for Mercury Meltdown. The game is due for release exclusively on Sony's handheld this September.

Widely cited as one of the most original and entertaining puzzle games on the PSP, a gameplay trailer for the forthcoming sequel can currently be viewed on our sister site, Eurogamer TV.
