IGDA Women in Games at GDC

Roundtable and panel sessions on the schedule.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010---San Francisco, CA--- IGDA Women in Games today announced their featured events at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), March 9-13, 2010. Committed to supporting women in games around the globe, IGDA Women in Games is a special interest group (SIG) of the International Game Developers Association.

IGDA Women in Games will hold their annual roundtable meeting on Thursday, March 11, 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm in Room 230, East Mezzanine at the Moscone Convention Center. The roundtable meeting will be moderated by Tina Tyndal, SIG steering committee member and newsletter editor. GDC badge holders are invited to bring their fresh ideas and enthusiasm, plus stick around for the latest news on IGDA Women in Games primary initiatives during 2010, including programs GameMentorOnline and Games2Girls.

IGDA Women in Games is proud to present two panel sessions at GDC this year, kicking off with Starting Something New – Women in Games, scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 3 pm to 4 pm in Room 130, North Hall. This session is moderated by Sonja Kangas, Head of Game Lab, Paf and IGDA Women in Games advisor, and features speakers Tiina Zilliacus, CEO of IronStar Helsinki; Celia Pearce, Director of Experimental Game Lab at Georgia Tech; Megan Gaiser, CEO of Her Interactive, and Julia Brasil, the first G.I.R.L. scholarship recipient awarded by Sony Online Entertainment.

The second panel session is entitled Are Women the New Hardcore Gamers?, and is scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in Room 130, North Hall. The session is moderated by Shanna Tellerman, Founder and CEO, Wild Pockets, with special guest speakers Amy Jo Kim CEO of ShuffleBrain; Wanda Meloni, Market Analyst with M2 Research; Morgan Romine, Community Manager and Online Marketing Manager for Ubisoft (plus Team Captain, Frag Dolls), and Jessica Tams, Executive Director of the Casual Game Association.

IGDA Women in Games are reprising their annual social gathering at the IGDA booth on Friday, March 12, 3 pm to 4:30 pm at front of the South Hall, Moscone Convention Center. Join guests and sponsors GamingAngels.com, Gas Powered Games, Her Interactive, Microsoft SideWinder, Mumbo Jumbo, Naughty Dog, Obsidian Entertainment and Thrust Interactive for refreshments, door prizes, networking and fun! Expo pass badge holders are encouraged to attend.

Microsoft Game Studios, in partnership with IGDA Women in Games, will host the second annual Microsoft Women in Gaming Awards on Friday, March 12. Launched at GDC in 2009, the annual Microsoft Women in Gaming Awards presentation celebrates women in the games industry who have played an important role in video game development across disciplines. With the partnership support of IGDA Women in Games, nominations were opened up to the game community for the 2010 awards. Peers were asked to nominate women who they felt have made substantial impact in the games industry in the past decade. Twenty nominees will be acknowledged and five winners will be presented with awards this week.
